1. OSHA Spring 2008 Agenda Published in Federal Register
OSHA's most recently published semiannual regulatory agenda listed 7 hazard topics on the Federal Register, many of which have garnered much public interest in recent years.

2. May is Electrical Safety Month
It shouldn’t be a shock to realize that following some basic safety precautions can prevent electrical injuries in the workplace. During Electrical Safety Month this May, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) offers some tips to keep workers safe from on-the-job electrical hazards.

3. Tennessee OSHA Reports 352 Amputations in FY 2007
Every year, thousands of workers in the United States suffer amputations, one of the most severe and disabling workplace injuries. According to Tennessee OSHA (TOSHA), 352 amputations were reported in FY 2007 in the state of Tennessee alone.

4. Outdoor Workers Not Screened for Skin Cancer, Research Says
New research has determined that employees working outdoors in the construction, forestry, fishing or farming industries are least likely to receive skin exams, despite their increased risk of incurring skin cancer from regular exposure to the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays.

5. OSHA Fines United Airlines $215,500
OSHA proposed $215,500 in fines against United Airlines Inc. in Chicago for alleged multiple serious and repeat violations of federal workplace safety standards after selecting the airline for an inspection and reviewing its occupational injury and illness data.

6. House Approves Bill Addressing Combustible Dust Hazards
By a 247 to 165 vote, the House approved a bill to help protect workers from the possibility of a combustible dust explosion, such as the one that hit the Imperial Sugar refinery in Port Wentworth, Ga., on Feb. 7, where 13 workers died and more than 60 others were injured.

7. May 7 Marks Occupational Safety and Health Professional Day
May 7 was Occupational Safety and Health Professional (OSHP) Day, a day created to recognize the ongoing efforts of occupational safety, health and environmental professionals as they work to protect people, property and the environment.
