1. House Hearing: Does OSHA Adequately Enforce Construction Safety Rules?
During a June 24 House Committee on Education and Labor hearing focusing on OSHA’s role in enforcing construction safety rules, legislators and industry experts questioned whether the agency is doing everything possible to improve safety at construction sites.

2. House Hearing Addresses Injury and Illness Underreporting
In a June 19 hearing, the House Committee on Education and Labor convened to consider potential underreporting of workplace injuries and illnesses, with several expert witnesses testifying that underreporting is a widespread problem that must be addressed.

3. Good Works in the Workplace: Volunteerism Boosts Morale and Teamwork
As businesses strive to be good corporate citizens, many also support their employees' charitable activities. By balancing the needs of the employer and employees, volunteer work can build teamwork and improve morale and job performance.

4. Kentucky Plant Worker Kills 5 Employees, Self
After arguing with his supervisor the morning of June 25, a worker in a plastics plant in Henderson, Ky., allegedly shot and killed five coworkers before turning the gun on himself.

5. International Safety: UK Workers and the Right to Request Time to Train
Millions of UK workers are set to benefit from a proposal that would grant them right to request time to train. The measure is aimed at employers who offer no training for employees.

6. MSHA Notifies 16 Mine Operators of Potential Patterns of Violations
As part of its enhanced enforcement initiative, MSHA sent letters to 16 mine operators announcing they have a potential pattern of violations of mandatory health or safety standards under section 104(e) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977.
